American actress and cult model Devon Aoki is the Acne Studios Spring-Summer 23 campaign muse. Photographed by Dutch visual artist and photographer Carlijn Jacobs, the collaboration makes for an interesting presentation. Aoki models a variety of hero looks, each having its own distinct story to tell, with backdrops reminiscent of the SS23 Paris show set.
The collection embodies what creative director Johnny Johansson described as a twisted wedding party, “There’s something cute, kitschy, sweet about weddings – but also something serious, tense, and vulnerable," Johansson noted. "I wanted to put a spin on the classic wedding, referencing everything from the tablecloth to the chandelier, the satin bedsheets, the bride’s shoe, the bows, and the cute flowers."
Devon wears a sheer tulle gown with a giant deconstructed bow in light blue for the collection’s standout image, wrapped in irregular ribbons of sky-coloured organza, conveying a sense of ‘unity and sophistication.’ She also appears to float above the pink silk sheets, in a contrasting ruffled satin pink gown.
Jacobs' collaboration with Acne Studios emphasizes the significance of visual storytelling. Aoki as a muse adds to the collection's mystery and intrigue. The use of spikes and silk adding a touch of ‘delicate with an element of danger’, an experimental essence that Acne Studios continuously conveys.
